How does Chinese K-pop idol Huang Zitao spend his wealth?

Whether you know him as Exo’s former maknae, Tao, or by his nickname “King of C-pop”, there’s no denying that Z. Tao, or Huang Zitao, is a most talented entertainer.

The singer-songwriter, producer, rapper, actor and model has steadily gained popularity since debuting with the K-pop boy band in 2011, eventually making a name for himself as a solo artist in 2015. An avid follower of fashion and collector of expensive sports cars, Huang is also known for his luxurious lifestyle, which he freely offers fans glimpses of on his social media.

But just how wealthy is Huang and how does he spend his money? Here’s a closer look.

His car collection

Being a pop idol – and a wealthy one at that – it’s not unusual that Huang has developed a fondness for the best things in life, regardless of the hefty price tags. In fact, “fondness” might be an understatement.

In 2018, Huang posted photos of his car collection on Weibo, sharing how it had always been his childhood dream to collect seven cars, likening it to collecting seven dragon balls in the anime Dragon Ball Z. He owns a Lamborghini Aventador and an Aston Martin Rapide S.

His private jet

Huang even has his own private jet that includes a private bedroom with a queen-size bed, an LCD TV, a well-stocked refreshment corner and a roomy dining space. Maintenance of a private jet reportedly takes about US$2.6 million a year.

Designer duds and watches

A dedicated fashion fan, Huang has also been spotted wearing streetwear labels such as Off-White, Supreme, Moschino and Fenty x Puma as well as designer brands Balenciaga, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Saint Laurent, Givenchy, Gucci and Loewe, to name a few. He has previously collaborated with Spanish fashion house Loewe as well as YSL Beauty.

He accessorises his outfits with an enviable collection of timepieces from Rolex, Audemars Piguet and Richard Mille, including the unique, one-of-a-kind Richard Mille RMS10 with a koi carp dial that costs about US$1.2 million.

Truly a luxurious dresser from head-to-toe, Huang’s Instagram also reveals Cartier jewellery, an Hermès purse and a Samsung flip phone by Thom Browne, among others. He also has an extensive collection of artworks.

He is the heir to a US$3 billion fortune

Huang recently made headlines by flaunting his wealth on his social media during what some fans considered to be an inappropriate time – right after the passing of his father Huang Zhongdong, the founder and executive director of L. Tao Entertainment, in September 2020. The late Huang owned four to five mansions in Qingdao and is known as one of the wealthiest men in China. He left his son a massive fortune of about US$3 billion.
